Such a touchy subject these days, but when we talk about diversity what do we mean? Do we mean diversity of gender, race or do we really mean diversity of thought and opinion?


I will be honest that when I see people define diversity solely as race, gender, etc. I get a bit annoyed.

How does this help diversity of opinion and thought? Does every blue person that you bring to your organization think like every other blue person so their skin color or their gender is enough. Isn’t this the kind of stereotyping we want to avoid, even discourage?


The thing is diversity of color etc. is easy to count. It is the lazy person’s way to diversity. If you want true diversity, diversity that will help you build a great organization you will need to talk to people and hear their story.


This may take more work and dedication but it is the right path.
